Precious in His sight

Do not let your adorning be external - the braiding of hair, the wearing of gold, or the putting on of clothing - but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious (1 Peter 3:3-4)

5 ways to express love

So it turns out that we communicate and give/receive love in 5 different ways and out of these 5, one or two of these is our 'primary' love language...

  1. Words of affirmation - encouraging words, praise, kind words (with the right tone of voice)
  2. Gifts - gift that is thoughtful and one that speaks of emotional love
  3. Acts of service - Serving one another in love out of choice, not obligation or fear
  4. Quality time - Doing something both parties enjoy; quality conversation and quality activities
  5. Physical Touch - a high five, a tender hug, a back rub

At the end of the book, there is a test to help us discover our primary love language. I 'discovered' that my primary language is quality time. Gifts and physical touch were tied at the very bottom. Understanding the different ways of communicating love has opened up my eyes to see why relationships breakdown because people 'don't feel loved'. It is not because the parents or partner is ignorant & are not trying, they are just speaking a different love language! Say, for example, my parents shows me love by giving me a holiday to safari (that would be lovely!) but are always too busy to spend time going to dinner/movies with me... then they are not really speaking my love language.
